Strategy

Our strategy was to redesign media art as a story-driven immersive experience rooted in Hwadam Botanic Garden. Rather than creating a single-screen AI artwork, we designed a narrative that unfolds across five connected projection surfaces. To achieve this, we deliberately separated the strengths of humans and AI. Human creators initiated the story, defined intention, emotional rhythm, spatial composition, and visitor experience. AI expanded the range of imagery, motion, visual styles, and creative possibilities. This human–AI hybrid approach enabled two original media art IPs within the existing budget while creating an immersive experience uniquely connected to Hwadam’s landscape, atmosphere, and cultural identity.

Execution

The hybrid pipeline covered every stage from concept development to on-site optimization. AI supported visualization, prompt design, image generation, motion, style setting, palette development, expansion, upscaling, and refinement. However, standard AI-generated assets typically begin around 1K resolution, making them insufficient for a 72-million-pixel immersive environment. To overcome this limitation, key objects were separated into layers, chroma-isolated, regenerated individually through AI, upscaled, and recomposed into seamless spatial visuals across five projection surfaces. Human creators directed, retrieved, selected, and rebuilt outputs while optimizing motion scale, eye-level composition, projector calibration, edge blending, and 8.2-channel sound for immersive continuity.

Results

"Reimagining Hwadam" created impact across three dimensions. For the client, it delivered two original Hwadamchae media art IPs within the existing budget, replacing recurring outsourced content with sustainable brand-owned assets.
